At the end of fourteen years, having placed more than 2500 Muttsys in the arms and laps of those with Alzheimer’s, The Muttsy Mission for Alzheimer’s is closing.

This journey has been a very rewarding experience and I am sad to see it end, however; everything has a season and the season for the Muttsy Mission has passed.

We have visited hundreds of nursing homes in multiple states, passing out Muttsys (wonderfully soft cuddly dogs made by Gund) that often reminded them of their beloved pets in years past.

Countless letters from family members expressed their appreciation for the Muttsys for their loved ones and often indicated they had sent Muttsy on with them, because Muttsy had brought so much comfort to them while they were here.

As part of the closing of the Muttsy Mission, we have a few Muttsys left, so we want to offer those who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s, the opportunity to have one, while supplies last. Muttsys are free to those with Alzheimer’s.

If you would like a Muttsy, please send your request in an email to, MUTTSYMISSION@AOL. including your name and address and the name of your loved one you are requesting the Muttsy for. We prefer mailing Muttsys to a family member to deliver, rather than the Nursing Home if possible.

Our only request is; when giving your loved one a Muttsy, please give them a hug and tell them you love them.   This is what we have done with all 2500 Muttsys; gave 2500 Hugs and said, “I love you. So, please honor our tradition. Love is their most valuable medicine!

Please allow a couple of weeks for packing and mailing your Muttsy. You will be notified when your Muttsy is mailed and if there are no Muttsys available, you will also be notified.

It has been an amazing experience and I will miss seeing smiles where there were no smiles and sparkle in eyes that did not sparkle.   It was a labor of love I did in honor of my mother –and I wouldn’t change a moment.

I am so grateful for the love and financial support I received from so many, that enabled the Mission to continue for these past fourteen years.

God Bless you and your loved one with this dreaded disease.

January, 2011
Greetings from The Muttsy Mission:                   php5OIaqd

For many, it is another milestone reached by having your loved one with you for another Christmas and New Year celebration.  For others, the holidays were extremely difficult as you mourned the loss of the loved one you so lovingly cared for over the past months and in some cases, years.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you; for those of us who have journeyed with our loved one or are continuing the journey, we know the road is long and painful.  May God provide strength for each and every one.

The Muttsy Mission’s special Christmas Gift Distribution at the Tim Hortons restaurant in Davison was an extremely rewarding event.  A number of family members stopped by, shared their story and picked up a Muttsy for their loved one.  It always makes Christmas a little more special when I am able to bring a little joy and comfort into the lives of those with Alzheimer’s.

Pictured with me is Terilyn Kirchner, CNA, for Genesys Convalescent Center in Grand Blanc who stopped in at Tim Hortons to learn about the Muttsy Mission and pick up a few Muttsys for some residents at the Center.  Plans are underway for a Muttsy Distribution at the Center in the Spring when Muttsys will be presented to all residents with Alzheimer’s.

As a reminder, Muttsys are always free to those with Alzheimer’s, made possible through donations from Amie’s, friends and families.

If you would like a Muttsy for a friend or family member, please contact our office and we will make arrangements for you to receive one.
